In 1996 Dudleigh hit the market with what is probably the most fuel efficient diesel conversion for a Series Land Rover in the class, with speed and durability to match. This was the first commercial kit for coupling a Perkins Prima (Rover Montego turbo diesel) engine to the Series Land Rover transmission, and hundreds of Series owners made the switch.

Being market leaders and experts in this field, Dudleigh have evolved the product to suit the Land Rover owner’s latest needs. Originally, converters had to get their flywheel and starter motor from certain Sherpa and LDV vans to complete the conversion. Largely due to their extensive use in Land Rovers; these flywheels and starters have now become scarce, this has driven their prices up - and our customer’s asked for alternatives.

Through innovative thinking at Dudleigh, coupled with clever design and precision CNC manufacture Dudleigh are now proud to announce their “Mk2 Prima Conversion Kit for Series land Rovers”. It retains all the benefits of the original, but has the additional advantage of not needing any Sherpa parts. Instead a Land Rover flywheel and starter are now specified which the Land Rover owner may already have, if not, they are easily available through Land Rover parts stockists and can be much cheaper than the old Sherpa option.

Robust and durable, Dudleigh combines Perkins’ and Land Rover’s engineering specifications with high quality, precision manufacturing.

Case Study 2

Name:
Charlie Young
Vehicle: 1973 Series 3, 88".
Donor: 1989 Diesel Montego - Charlie bought a complete Montego car with 170,000 miles on the clock for £300. He then removed the engine and scrapped the remainder of the car. Mileage: Since the conversion in 1999, Charlie has covered over 10,000 miles, averaging about 36mpg - mainly on-road.
Facilities: He did the conversion himself in his works motor club workshop, he borrowed a welder and made his own front engine mounts and alternator bracket.
Comments: "Its so user friendly now; it starts on the button and there's no stress keeping up with the traffic. I'm no scientist, but found the conversion quite straight forward."

Name:
Stuart Jackson
Vehicle: 1958 Series 2, 88".
Donor: Diesel Montego car. Stuart bought the engine from a breaker for £600 in 1996.
Mileage: Since the conversion, Stuart has covered around 19,000 miles, averaging about 32mpg including some heavy towing and trialling.
Facilities: The conversion was carried out in his friend's garage.
Comments: "I did not want bastardise the vehicle as, at 40 years old, it is an excellent example of the model, but I needed it to be usable on a daily basis. If you look at running costs and depreciation its hard to see that there can be a cheaper way to motor, and the chassis and bodywork are still original."
